This vegan pulled pork recipe is better than any meat-based pulled pork we've ever tried! These types of pulled pork recipes are often made with Jackfruit, a fruit from Indonesia that has a very intense smell and a meat-like texture. However, fresh jackfruit is very difficult to find in Spain, and brined versions don't work very well for this recipe. While searching for different options, we discovered Heura, a 100% plant-based meat that comes in different formats and has a SUPER REALISTIC texture. So much so that we managed to fool the entire office!

The perfect pulled pork has a sweet, smoky flavor and a very juicy texture. To achieve this distinctive flavor, we've developed a spice blend that you probably already have at home and can be prepared to add to any dish. To achieve this texture, we'll combine the Heura vegetable pork with garlic, onion, soy sauce, and barbecue sauce. You'll see below how easy this recipe is to prepare.

You can currently find Heura in many supermarkets around the world, and many also accept online purchases. Find out if you have one nearby here.

Vegan alternatives to prepare pulled pork or shredded meat

An increasing number of supermarkets are offering alternative or vegan meats prepared with all kinds of ingredients. Try different brands to find the one that best suits your tastes and intolerances, as they often contain soy, which isn't suitable for everyone. If you prefer to use other products, you can opt for jackfruit, a very fleshy fruit that breaks down into chunks very similar to meat and is perfect for preparing these types of dishes. You can also use portobello mushrooms or button mushrooms, which, when cooked, have a very juicy texture and their intense flavor is on par with that of meat.

How long does vegan meat last?

The shelf life depends on the type of food you use. If you bought an alternative meat at the supermarket, you should check the package for information. If you prepared this recipe with vegetables, it can easily last up to a week in the refrigerator.
