Dumplings are small, steamed empanadas filled with meat and vegetables, very popular in China. Among the dumplings, we find gyozas, a type of Japanese dumpling that is not only steamed but also grilled to give it a crispy base. Gyozas are very popular because they combine different textures and are also very easy to prepare at home.
To simplify preparation, we suggest buying pre-made gyoza dough instead of making it at home. This dough comes in individual sheets and is sold in all Asian supermarkets, usually in the frozen food section.
There are as many gyoza fillings as there are flavors in the world, but pork and spring onion is one of the most traditional and, in our opinion, one of the most delicious. The key to delicious gyozas is a juicy filling, which is best achieved by using fatty meat, such as pork. If you prefer to use another type of meat, or prepare vegetarian gyozas, be sure to add juicy ingredients to prevent the filling from becoming dry. But don't worry, there's nothing that some sauteed vegetables and a little olive oil can't fix.
Discover how to make delicious gyozas and learn to master all kinds of folds by following the instructions below.
Necessary ingredients
Following this recipe, you can make approximately 20 gyozas, which corresponds to 5 servings. Remember that you can choose other types of filling and vary the proportions of spices to achieve the flavor you like best.
How to prepare pork and spring onion gyozas

Place a teaspoon of filling in the center; it's best to start small to prevent it from spilling out through the folds. Filling dumplings is much easier than it looks; you just need to decide how you want to finish them.
The simplest fold is the triangle: simply pinch the dough with four fingers and bring the sides together to form 3 points.
The most traditional fold is achieved by folding the dough in half and making two folds towards the center on each side, giving it a half-moon shape.
Don't worry if you don't get it right the first time; it takes a little practice, but you'll get the hang of it in no time.

How to fold or close dumplings
Filling dumplings is much easier than it seems; you just have to decide how you want to finish them. Above, we showed you three simple or different ways to close gyozas: with pleats, in a triangle, or in a square shape.
If folding isn't your thing, there's an even easier and faster way to seal dumplings: a dumpling mold. There are many types of molds on the market, each with a different design. We love these cute ones from LAEMALLS .
