Guide to visiting Trastevere

It must be that all the roads lead to Rome that we end up there many times. Whether it was thanks to Ryanair's legendary 1 cent tickets (what times!), a romantic getaway or thanks (?) to my old job. So the 1st, 2nd and even the 3rd time you visit the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and all the things to do in Rome .

But of course, the 4th and 5th time you want to see something different… even waking up every day with Brad Pitt must be tiring (really?) or eating pizza every night is tiring in the end (I don’t believe this). And that’s how we got to know one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city and today we’re going to tell you everything there is to see and do in Trastevere

But what is it? Why should I go? What can I see and do in Trastevere?  You have to visit it because it is a genuine, authentic neighbourhood loved by the Romans (and you know what good taste they have!).

1 Locating Trastevere, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Rome

Trastevere is located on the other side of the Tiber River and, although historically it has been a poor and almost forgotten neighborhood, today it is gaining strength and fame thanks to its charm. Here you can walk through narrow, winding streets, where if you look up at the sky you will come across that famous image of clothes hanging on the balconies…

You will also pass by medieval churches, browse through artisan and antique shops, try the delights of Roman cuisine in one of its trattorie , relax with a granita in your hand in the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere or simply lose track of time watching how the Romans gesture, talk and walk.

What and where to eat in Trastevere?

A tip: avoid the tourist menus. You may be fine with just one dish. Some great first courses are:

  • Spaghetti alla carbonara or cacio e pepe,
  • Bucatini all'amatriciana
  • Roman style gnocchi
  • Grilled Penne…

Everything is very light and almost carb-free, well maybe a little bit hehe! The second courses are also delicious, our favorites are:

  • The abbacchio in the oven,
  • The Roman Saltimbocca
  • Or a good panino with the porchetta!

And to finish, nothing better than an ice cream or a tiramisu . Mamma mia, I'm so hungry.
