A year ago we told you about the most beautiful photos/moments of 2014, today it's time to talk about 2015. 2015 has been a year that was simply... incredible! If someone had told us that in 12 months we would experience so many things and in so many different countries, no way, we would have thought it was a joke.
JANUARY
We started the year celebrating in a house rented by some Australian acquaintances 2 minutes before 12 in the middle of a street in Queenstown… things that happen in New Zealand! Recovered from the hangover we began a month of work, writing our first novel, meeting up with friends and work colleagues and preparing for new trips…
FEBRUARY
On my 30th birthday we left Queenstown behind and, after 9 months living on the antipodes, we began to say goodbye to New Zealand. Before saying goodbye we got into our van to travel around the rest of the South Island that we still had left to visit: we visited the Caitlins, the Dunedin Peninsula, the West Coast, the Akaroa Peninsula and Christchurch.
MARCH
March took us back to Asia, to our beloved Malaysia: here we spent some super relaxed days on Tioman Island, in Redang and ended up in Kuala Lumpur, where we met Maria, Francesco and Felipe, great travelers and people (although with horrible taste in beer).
APRIL
Almost without realizing it, we found ourselves landing in Japan, a country we had always dreamed of but which had never been in our plans, since it is known that… Japan is suuuper expensive. Well, no: it is not! And we discovered this by traveling for a month through Kyoto, Osaka, Koya San, Nara, Himeji, Hiroshima and Takayama.
MAY
The whole of May was filled with the colour, smell and flavour of the capital of Japan: Tokyo. Here we were doing workaway, working in a hostel in exchange for accommodation in a house that we shared with people from all over the world, a super enriching experience that left us with a very good taste in our mouths… And what can we say about Tokyo? It became one of our favourite cities in the whole world, it is absolutely amazing. We adore it.
JUNE
June brought something we had been wanting for a while: reunions. With our families, cities, houses, friends, pets. June taught us that returning home can be as (or more) amazing than the trips themselves (and also that you have to come back, in order to be able to leave again). In June we moved to live in Andalusia, in Vera Playa… one of our favorite places (those delicious tapas, those sunsets, that cute little house, that tranquility! Just what we needed to recharge our batteries!).
JULY
In July my parents came to visit us and of course we took the opportunity to show them some of the charm of Andalusia: we relaxed in Cabo de Gata and went to explore Granada and Malaga. My parents fell in love with the Alhambra and the tapas and we, once again, thanked fate for having brought us to this heavenly corner of Spain. Andalusia is so cool!
AUGUST
August was the shitty month of the year. The word was: wordpress. Migration to wordpress. This brought us: 10 hours of boring work a day (reviewing articles, re-uploading photos, checking all the links, doing SEO again, shitting on everything that moves). At the end of the month we went, stressed, white as mozzarelle and with dark circles under our eyes, to Italy: September 1st was already coming and with it a new great trip.
SEPTEMBER
Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia: September welcomed us by taking us on an interrail trip through the Balkans. It was a strange trip: our batteries were almost completely discharged and we hadn't planned anything since we didn't have time to do it 'thanks' to the migration to wordpress (if you're not a blogger you won't understand, you might imagine us flying in the sky with little birds but no, the migration from a blogger platform to the wordpress platform is such an ugly process, sooooo ugly that we'd better not tell you more). In the end the migration didn't ruin our trip: the Balkans turned out to be a great destination and we enjoyed it a lot.
OCTOBER
October was the second month of interrailing in the Balkans: we visited Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria and, although we initially thought of ending the trip in Istanbul, we finally decided to change course and go to Budapest, Prague and Bratislava. Istanbul and Türkiye deserved another trip (and more time, no doubt).
NOVEMBER
When we were in Macedonia, there was something - let's call it a sign of destiny - that made us book a flight to return to a country we already knew: Sri Lanka. In November we went back there, without planning and with a new hope... for now we prefer not to say anything, but maybe 2016 will have a touch of Sri Lanka!
DECEMBER
December is being a very busy month: we started it in the south of Sri Lanka, we continued in Italy visiting my family and eating delicious pizza, we returned after a few years to Barcelona, our adopted city where we lived for 5 years (how beautiful you are Barcelona!!) and we finished it in Sigüenza, at Rober's house enjoying the family and the warmth of the fireplace (from where we are writing).
December takes away an unrepeatable year of travel and gives way to a new year of which we know practically nothing... but we do have a feeling that it will be another great year!
